How to Print to Cardstock, Labels or other Media Types On Kyocera MFPs

This guide explains how to correctly print cardstock, label sheets or other paper types using a Kyocera Device, helping prevent jams, poor print quality, or damage to labels.

Before You Begin (Important)

To help prevent jams, poor print quality, or damage to labels.
  • Only use laser‑compatible cardstock or labels
  • Be sure to feed labels from the multipurpose tray.
  • Do not reuse label sheets as the adhesive may come in contact with the internal components.  Glue or a label may come off in the machine causing failure.

Step 1: Prepare the Printer Tray

  1. Open the multipurpose tray (MP tray)  and load the cardstock or labels:
    • Labels: Face up, top edge first (varies by labels—check Labels diagram)
    • Cardstock: Print side face up
  2. Adjust the paper guides so they fit snugly.
  3. On the MFP screen ensure the Kyocera is configured to print to that Media Type:
Note: if admin restrictions are in place, the user may not have access to change these settings. if so, please reach out to your IT contact.
    1.   Select the 3 dots in the top right, then Paper Settings.
    2. Select the tray you wish to change - In this case the MP tray Settings.
    3. Select Media Type.
    4. Select the Paper type you wish to print to.

Step 2: Set Media Options When Printing from Your PC

  1. Go to File → Print
  2. Select your Kyocera device
  3. Click Printer Properties or Preferences

Step 3: Configure Kyocera Printer Settings

Inside Printer Properties:

  • Select multipurpose tray (MP tray) (recommended)

Choose Media Type (Most Important Setting)

  • Labels → for label sheets
  • Cardstock or Thick Paper → for cardstock

⚠️ Never leave Media Type as “Plain” when printing labels or cardstock.

Step 4: Print a Test Page

  1. We suggest print one page only
  2. Watch for: Feeding issues, Toner smudging or Label peeling or curling
  3. If everything looks correct, continue printing.
